Why don't black women appreciate their curls and want their hair to be flat and boring?

I am black but I am not blessed with curls- how do I describe my hair? Somewhere between straight and wavy- loosely waved I guess. I don't like it. It's boring. I have to do all sorts of crap to make my hair bouncier-my hair won't hold a dang curl without teasing it a million times. I like going for the 40's/50's look and I used to try and go for the 70's afro look but failed miserably- my hair would just fall. I always admired the sexy 70's style afro look that I've desperately tried to get- yet the majority of black women who can easily attain it by just cutting their hair in a certain shape instead try to piss it all away by making their hair flat and boring. It's ugly and it also looks insecure. Stop doing that! And the irony of it all is that everyone things I relax my hair when in reality I'm trying to make it poofier with pin curls and curling irons. I'm a freak of nature. I definitely have to have some Indian blood back there somewhere. Why don't black women appreciate their curls and want their hair to be flat and boring?
people always want what they can't have. i bet there are girls rigth now who are reading this and screaming because they want your hair. you have to learn to love your hair and work with what you have. my hair is naturally frizzy and curly, and i always used to spend hours straightening it and thinning it out to make it look ';nice';. finally, i chopped it all off and wear my hair natural. it looks great! lol.

tips on how to get your hair to work(how you want it): your hair could be too long. try cutting it shorter so there isn't so much weight holding it down. also, try using scrunching gel and a diffuser...i have a link to a pic of what i'm talking about below...it's from yahoo shopping so you can get an idea on prices and all that. those are good for getting your hair to dry with more volume and curls/waves.

hope that helps! Why don't black women appreciate their curls and want their hair to be flat and boring?
I have relaxed hair and its in good condition I its naturally wavy and curly I suggest you try a good curl cream and some infusium 23 comb it out don't let it stay curled and matted too long blow drying it might make it have more body and bounce as well Hope this helps

I have a friend that has hair like that and there is some Indian background involved, but she also has reddish colored hair and her son has flaming red hair and he and his brother both have semi-straight hair as you have described. I don't know what the answer is unless you go and get a perm or something. She never complains about her hair and I think that is what she does is gets perms. Oh, did I forget to mention that she is also black.
Maybe it's just you. I appreciate everything God has given me. Nappy, curly, wavy, or straight hair i'll take it either way. But it seems like you don't appreciate it at all. Maybe you should cut it all off and give it to the cancer patients that'll do almost anything to have their hair back.
I have the same type of hair my family is mixed with black and Indian(Cherokee0 so you know my hair like it works when it wants to. What i do is i wrap it up at night and i also try different hair styles in it to give it some diversity. Hope this helps. I don't do perms if you have really nice hair it can really screw it up big time.
try to stop using perms, just wash your hair when you need to, blow dry it, and comb it out.
Because it's a personal choice. Not all black people have to look the same. If I want to wear my hair straight I'm going to. F*ck your standards of what a black woman should look like.
You and me both my sista. I can not stand the wrap style. That style looks like a woman just pressed her hair and called it a day. I always preferred curls in my hair. I wear spiral curls during the weekdays and loose curls on the weekends. I remember wearing my natural in the 70's all big and bushy. Then I went to press and curl then relax hair, but I still roll it up every night.
well im mix with black, indian, and white and my hair is really boring. i cant do anything with it. all my black friends have so many cute hair stlyes. black girls hair look so nice when its long. but as far as perming the hair some of their looks good it has nothing to do with insecure so theres indian women like my mother who flatiron her hair
