How to curl hair with thick straightener?

i have Conair straightener and it's thick one.

people usually have thin flat iron that's like 1 inch so they can curl their hair easily.

and i tried to curl my hair with mine and it's hard 'cause it doesn't give me pretty curl. i can't really curl it with my straightener.
